1. Introduction to the subject

Control science and engineering is a discipline that studies the theory, method, technology and engineering application of control. Based on cybernetics, system theory and information theory, it studies common problems in various application fields, including the acquisition and processing of state information of research objects, control and decision-making, and plays an important role in economic development and national security. The service field covers the defense industry, Internet, artificial intelligence, communication, intelligent manufacturing and other fields.

The discipline of control science and engineering of Harbin Engineering University originated from the two majors of "Hydrographic survey and navigation Equipment" and "Ship Electrical Equipment" established by the Naval Engineering Department of the "Harbin Military Industry" in 1953. In 1990, it was approved as the first doctoral training point of "Ship Special Auxiliary Equipment and System" in China. The discipline has a long history and is the earliest control discipline facing the field of ships in China. It is also a first-level discipline of control science and engineering with the most "ship-sea" characteristics in China.

Adhering to the concept of combining theoretical research with engineering practice, interdisciplinarity and internationalization, and with the distinctive characteristics of shipbuilding industry, naval equipment and Marine development, the discipline has always been oriented towards the field of shipbuilding and Marine engineering, and has carried out in-depth theoretical research and key technology research in the field of control and artificial intelligence, focusing on the forefront of international scientific and technological development, and serving major national defense projects. To cultivate first-class academic research, innovation and entrepreneurship leaders in the shipbuilding industry and the national defense industry.

The discipline has made fruitful achievements over the years. In terms of major scientific research achievements, it has successfully developed China's first Marine integrated navigation system, the first Marine radio navigation system, the first unmanned underwater vehicle, the first HDP3 dynamic positioning system, the first ship anti-rolling fin, the first human vein recognition and fingerprint recognition software applied in practice, etc. It has made outstanding contributions to the development of China's shipbuilding industry and naval equipment construction.

The discipline attaches great importance to the internationalization of the teaching team, selects key teachers to study abroad, encourages academic exchanges during postgraduate study, and establishes exchange and cooperation relations with well-known universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada, Russia and other countries.
